I’m a fitness enthusiast. I’ve been running distance since middle school and love the sport. More than once I’ve overdone my running (because I haven’t consistently strength trained) while attempting to train for marathons. Whenever I’ve had to stop running because of an injury, I’ve tried other sports. Over the years I’ve learned to lift, swim laps, mountain bike, gravel bike, and road bike.
Starting these new sports is always nerve-racking to some degree (um, especially mountain biking), but I am a big believer in leaning into learning. Some say that the purpose of life is to live it, and I believe a way to fulfill this purpose is to learn as much as possible. This philosophy has definitely had me jumping in over my head at times but, fortunately, community in the sports I choose always comes through to help me out.
Thanks to the encouragement of my fitness community at Green Mountain Community Fitness in Berlin, VT, I did my first triathlons in 2024 and qualified for age group nationals. Then, in 2025 I trained for a marathon and attained another overuse injury rather than accomplishing that goal. I pivoted and had some big personal growth on my bike while I recovered. My community came through for me and I learned from friends in the triathlon community and at the Vermont Bicycle Shop in Barre, VT.
Now, in late 2025, I’m starting winter training to go after some big road bicycle racing goals in the 2026 season. This blog is going to document my experience in consistently training – both strength and on the bike. I’ve learned my lesson about overuse injuries! I’m hopeful that the lessons I learn over the coming months can help others, whether it’s through passing information along or inspiring at least one reader. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy the journey with me.
